Georgia football did not have their best stuff against Austin Peay on Saturday as the only beat the Governors 28-6. There are a lot of reasons why winning by such a slim margin is bad for UGA, but the fact that their backups didn't get as much playing time is the biggest downside from this game.
However, there were a few Bulldogs who shined in their backup duties who reminded everyone how deep this Georgia team really is.
RB Chauncey Bowens
Nate Frazier got off to a rocky start against Austin Peay as he fumbled the ball on the first drive of the game. He later made up for this turnover, but he had a lot of help from some of his running mates as well.
Chauncey Bowens stepped up in a big way as he tallied 56 yards on 11 carries, but most importantly he found the end zone two times. Bowens will continue to be a big factor to this team this season, so don't be surprised when he has his next big game against a high quality SEC opponent.
WR Talyn Taylor
True freshman receiver Talyn Taylor is the first five-star receiver Georgia has brought To Athens in quite some time, and so far he has been a solid piece to the puzzle. He unfortunately doesn't seem like a player who will get a lot of run this season, but against Austin Peay he had two early catches for 28 yards.
RB Chauncey Phillips
Not only did Bowens have a great game at running back, but so too did Chauncey Phillips. Phillips did not find the end zone like Bowens did, but he was able to record 55 rushing yards on just seven carries.
Frazier and Bowens appear to be the top two options at running back, but right now Phillips is comfortably the third best option who will get a fair amount of snaps every game.
QB Ryan Puglisi
With Gunner Stockton struggling some in this game, it's important to keep tabs on backup Ryan Puglisi because his number could be called at any moment. Unfortunately he did not get as much playing time as many would have hoped, but he still got to play in the final minutes and completed one of his two passes for four yards.
The incompletion however was not his fault as he threw a bullet in a tight window that the receiver dropped. Puglisi has shown he is more than capable of succeeding if his number is called, so Georgia fans won't have to worry if his number is called.
