There is so much on the line this week when Georgia football takes on Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. The obvious thing being that Georgia is looking to advance to the semifinals in the CFP, but the Bulldogs would also love to stay undefeated against an elite program like Notre Dame.
But there is another interesting storyline heading into this game that involves Georgia's star running back Trevor Etienne.
As everyone knows, the Sugar Bowl is taking place in New Orleans, LA at the Caesars Superdome. This will not be the first time that Etienne is playing in this stadium as he played in it in high school during a State Championship game, which Etienne spoke about recently with the media.
“Words can’t describe how excited I am to be back home, playing in New Orleans, playing in Louisiana,” Etienne said via dawgnation.com. “But I actually don’t have that good of a history with games in that stadium. I lost in the state championship. It was terrible."
The Etienne family struggles in New Orleans
Not only has Etienne never won in this stadium, but his older brother Travis has had an even worse time in this stadium. Travis Etienne was a standout running back for Clemson from 2017-2020, and during that time he and Clemson went 0-3 in this stadium.
So this stadium and the city of New Orleans have not been friendly to the Etienne family throughout the course of their football careers.
Obviously this stat doesn't mean anything when it comes to Georgia's game on Jan. 1, but this is surely a streak that Etienne and his family will want to see snapped. And what better time to do it than on the biggest stage in college football in the College Football Playoff.
