UMass coach Don Brown counting his blessings after being fired before playing Georgia
Georgia football is coming off one of their best wins of the season on Saturday after beating Tennessee 31-17. One concern after winning any game as big as this one is that UGA may have a tough time turning the page from that big win and getting ready for their next game.
And while that may certainly happen this week, it likely won't matter all that much considering Georgia's next opponent is 2-8 UMass.
While this game likely will be the easiest of the season so far for Georgia, some breaking news released on Monday will likely make this game even easier for the Bulldogs.
UMass fires head coach Don Brown
UMass athletic director Ryan Bamford has announced on Monday that head football coach Don Brown has been fired. Offensive Coordinator Shane Montgomery will fill in as the UMass interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
As mentioned, UMass is not having a great season as they sit just 2-8 this season. This however is much of the same for UMass under Brown as he was a lowly 6-28 record during his tenure.
Seeing Brown get fired with this record is not surprising at all, it is however very shocking to see it done at this point in the season. UMass has just two games left in their season, so it seems like a strange time to fire a coach instead of just waiting two weeks. At the same time however, their season is already over, so maybe it doesn't matter all that much.
Georgia will have to be careful this week however because it is a regular occurrence to see teams play significantly better the week after their coach is fired. That likely won't be an issue considering how large the gap in talent is between these two teams, but it is something worth monitoring.
