Unlikely program now trending for Georgia's No. 1 recruit out of nowhere

Since when did Texas Tech start beating Georgia for recruits?

Arguably the No. 1 recruit for Georgia football in the 2027 recruiting class is five-star EDGE LaDamion Guyton. Guyton is the No. 1 overall recruit in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings, so it's obvious why UGA would want him so bad. However, the biggest reason why he is an important recruit for Georgia is because he is from the Peach State.

There is still a year and a half left in Guyton's recruitment so it's hard to predict how things will shake out, but Rivals insider Sam Spiegelman has logged an official prediction on Monday for Guyton to commit to Texas Tech.

Georgia losing some steam with No. 1 overall recruit

Georgia football still has some work to do to finish their 2026 recruiting class, but it isn't too early to start working on their top targets in the 2027 class. That is exactly what Kirby Smart and his staff have done with Guyton as they did already have a prediction on 247Sports to win this recruitment. That however could be changing as the latest prediction does not favor UGA.

Of all the teams Guyton could choose over Georgia, Texas Tech might be one of the most unlikely programs. The Red Raiders typically aren't a program Georgia competes with on the recruiting trail, and if they do target the same recruits it's usually UGA who is coming out on top. But things appear to be changing for Texas Tech as they did just earn a commitment from five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo a few days ago as well.

Who knows what will end up happening in this recruitment, but Georgia has their work cut out for them if they want to win this recruitment. But even though Guyton might be trending to Texas Tech right now, it still wouldn't be wise to bet against Georgia in the long run.
