Georgia football came up short against Alabama Saturday night 24-21. The Bulldogs played their hearts out, but none of that matters when it comes to ranking the best teams in college football this season.
So everyone in the country was expecting to see Georgia fall in the AP and Coaches Poll on Sunday because of this loss. And while that was the case, the Bulldogs position in the Coaches Poll is definitely a little head-scratching to say the least

Coaches Poll reveals shocking ranking for Georgia entering Week 6
Entering this weekend Georgia was No. 3 in the Coaches Poll. But after this loss UGA fell to No. 10 in the updated Coaches Poll. Falling seven spots after a loss to Alabama is more than fair, but comparing Georgia's ranking to Alabama's placement is where things get weird.
The Crimson Tide were No. 16 in the Coaches Poll last week, and after this win they rose to No. 11. Yes, Alabama is somehow still ranked behind Georgia even after beating the Bulldogs on the road.
This just goes to show how pointless this ranking truly is. It is widely known that most coaches don't even vote in this ranking. They typically just allow one of their graduate assistants to submit their ballot for them. And if a coach is attempting to rank the top 25 teams on their own there is no way they have the time to pay enough attention to the rest of the country to actually put together a respectable list.
While Georgia fans typically throw a party whenever they are ranked higher than Georgia, that won't be happening this time. Everyone knows Alabama proved they are the better team Saturday night even if the Coaches Poll has Georgia ranked higher.
