Georgia football has gone a different route in their schedule this season as the Bulldogs began their 2025 campaign with an easy opponent. That opponent was Marshall, who the Bulldogs dominated 45-7.

Georgia now has their eyes set on Austin Peay who is their week two opponent, and they are the perfect team for UGA to be playing this week.

Georgia football will allow Gunner Stockton to build more confidence against Austin Peay

One of the biggest takeaways from Georgia’s week one win was how great Gunner Stockton played. He lit up the Thundering Herd defense through the air as he tallied 190 passing yards and two touchdowns. On top of that he also ran for 73 more yards and two more touchdowns as well.

Stockton’s confidence is key for Georgia this season because he was not at his best during his only other career start last season against Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff. Stockton also sat through this past offseason where nearly every college football analyst doubted if he would was good enough to lead Georgia this season. Stockton’s first game showed how wrong everyone was, which will help him build his confidence up going into the rest of the season.

The Bulldogs face an extremely difficult SEC schedule that begins week three at Tennessee, but Georgia’s next opponent in Austin Peay will give the Bulldogs another easy opportunity this season. Georgia should open up the playbook for Stockton and let him dominate both through the air and on the ground, that was his confidence is at an all time high heading into next week.

So if he can have another great performance, Stockton will be ready to hit the road for the first time in his career against Tennessee in what has quickly become one of the biggest games of Georgia’s season.
