For so many new pieces coming together in Sanford Stadium, Saturday was one to remember for the Georgia Bulldogs faithful. Throughout their blowout victory over the Marshall Thundering Herd, this one transfer broke out in a big way for them. Former USC Trojans wide receiver Zachariah Branch made his presence felt in not only the receiving game, but as a key contributor over on special teams.
Branch had a quick connection with new starting quarterback Gunner Stockton. He caught three passes for a game-high 95 yards and a touchdown. Branch also fielded three punts for 24 yards earlier in the contest. With the starters being taken out late in the third quarter, it is safe to say that the growing rapport between Branch and Stockton already produced out in dividends for Georgia.
Marshall may have been no match for this team, but Branch's breakaway speed was on full display.

Although Stockton, and later backup quarterback Ryan Puglisi, did a great job of spreading the football around, it was easy to see why Branch has quickly become WR1 in the Georgia receiving corps. While Texas A&M transfer Noah Thomas did not do very much at all in this game, at least Branch more than lived up to the hype. Keep in mind that Georgia largely ran the football today...
For as much flack as Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo gets from time to time, there were very few instances where he got inside his head a bit. It is easy to let the game come to you when you have a massive talent advantage over the opposition. Stockton seemed right at home in this scheme. Furthermore, Branch may be a better fit in this offense than he was playing for Lincoln Riley at USC.
Frankly, it may come down to SEC play more than anything before Branch deserves all the accolades.
Zachariah Branch is already living up to the hype in a Georgia uniform
It is only one game into his Georgia career, but Branch seems to be the key to unlocking the offense. Georgia has had plenty of talented receivers come through its program before, but not all achieve all they could in a Bulldogs uniform. A.J. Green was a unicorn, while Ladd McConkey was built differently. Even one George Pickens left some fruit ripe on the vine during his three-year run with the program.
Overall, Branch's early and immediate success in this offense only does good things for Georgia. It makes the Dawgs an even bigger player in the transfer portal, knowing that if a guy is being pursued by Kirby Smart's team that he could be in line for early contributions. It also does wonders for instilling confidence in a new-look offense being run by a first-time starting quarterback in Stockton.
Ultimately, people had their concerns about how well Branch would fit into this offense at Georgia. It is far more pro-style than anything he ever ran previously at USC. While it was only against a rebuilding Group of Five team in Marshall, it is easy to see this type of connection blossoming into the better part of the season. No matter the opponent, it seems as though Stockton will look Branch's way now.
With so much football left to be played, it is good to see QB1 and WR1 be on the same page already.
