A big, although not unexpected, commit for the Georgia Bulldogs class of 2015 was announced on Tuesday night, as 5-star defensive tackle Trent Thompson (Albany, Ga./Westover)  gave his commitment to the Dawgs per a report from Dawgs247.com.

The class of 2015 at Georgia is definitely shaping up to be something special, and this addition is by far one of the biggest, in more ways than one.

Thompson has been thought to be leaning towards Georgia for some time, but that didn’t mean that the Georgia staff and everyone else wasn’t going to celebrate such a big announcement.

The addition of Thompson is a big deal for more than just him being the No. 2 overall recruit in the nation. He’s rated as the No. 1 player in the state of Georgia, regardless of position, and the No. 1 defensive tackle in the nation according to 247 Sports composite rankings.

At 6-foot-4 and 295 pounds, Thompson brings not just impressive size to the middle of the Georgia defensive line, but he’s got unreal speed for a man his size, and has made a high school career out of disrupting plays in the backfield and terrorizing quarterbacks.

Apparently Thompson has known for a few weeks where he wanted to commit, but waited until a ceremony was being held as his school, Westover High School in Albany, Ga. “Yeah, I told them (the Georgia staff). I told them at Dawg Night and they went crazy up there,” he said after the ceremony. “I told some of them on the field but when I got to office everybody just broke loose.”

Georgia was the first to offer Thompson, who also had offers from Auburn, Alabama and just about every other big program in the nation.

With the commitment of Thompson, more big-name dominoes are sure to fall the Bulldogs way now.
