The SEC officially released Georgia football's 2026 schedule Tuesday night, and there are so many things to love. From the selection of their three annual rivals to the fact that Georgia will face each team in the conference at least every other year, there are so many great things about UGA's upcoming schedule.
There is however one big problem with next year's schedule, and only Georgia is able to fix it.
Georgia needs to fix big problem with their 2026 non-conference schedule
There's no denying that there are some weird quirks to Georgia's 2026 SEC schedule, but the big problem UGA needs to fix involves their non-conference schedule. Since the SEC is adopting a nine game conference schedule, the Bulldogs will only play three non-conference opponents each year. This means UGA will have to cancel one game next season as they already have four non-conference games scheduled.
The Bulldogs currently have home games against Western Kentucky, Tennessee State and Georgia Tech next year along with a road game at Louisville. There's no chance that Georgia will cancel on the Yellow Jackets, so that leaves the Bulldogs with one of two options.
Either they cancel on Louisville to retain two easy opponents on their schedule, or they cancel on Tennessee State or Western Kentucky. Saying goodbye to Louisville may seem like the easy choice to make, but the Bulldogs have a two year contract with them that includes a home game against the Cardinals in 2027. So if UGA cancels on Louisville next year there is no chance they want to come to Athens the following year.
So while it would be tough to play 11 power four opponents in one season, that is the most likely outcome. And if that is the way Georgia decides to go it likely means Tennessee State will be the team canceled on because that game was scheduled just a few months ago compared to Western Kentucky who has been on the schedule since 2019.
