The college football transfer portal opened on Wednesday, and what was a wild day across the country was actually a pretty calm day in Athens. While over 1,000 players entered their name into the portal on Wednesday, Georgia only had one player decide to do so in running back Branson Robinson.
While it was exciting to see only one player decide to leave, everyone knew it was only a matter of time until more players followed Robinson’s lead, and that happened on Thursday with wide receiver Nitro Tuggle entering the portal.

These departures make a lot of sense
No one ever wants to see players leave Georgia, but if anyone was going to transfer then these two players might be the first choice for most fans. Reason being because they both were suspended indefinitely for unrelated driving incidents that took place a few weeks ago.
Since both players were suspended indefinitely, no one knows when they would be eligible to make their return this upcoming season. So why waste roster spots on two players who can’t even play?
Conversely, this is probably the reason why both players entered the portal as well because they want to be able to practice and play right now and not have to sit around and wait while they are suspended.
But looking at Georgia’s program as a whole, something needs to be done about these driving related incidents that keep occurring. UGA definitely has a reputation now, a reputation everyone wants to get rid of. So while these two players leaving doesn’t get rid of that reputation, it does help a little from an outsider’s perspective.
It will be interesting to see what schools take a chance on both players, but Georgia fans shouldn’t waste too much time worrying about losing either player.
