2 former Georgia Bulldogs are dominating the NFL in their rookie seasons
Georgia football fans are very accustomed to seeing former Bulldogs dominate in the NFL. Every single week there is a new Georgia player who does something amazing in the league, so it never really is a surprise to see former Bulldogs making headlines in the NFL.
However, one thing that is a little less common is seeing former Georgia stars dominate in their rookie seasons. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad about UGA and their rookies, but it just speaks to how hard the adjustment is from college to the NFL.
This year however is different. This season Georgia has two rookies who are on top of all other rookies in receiving yards.
Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey
To likely no one’s surprise, tight end Brock Bowers is currently leading all NFL rookies in receiving yards with 706 yards so far this season. On top of that, Bowers just set an NFL record this last weekend when he recorded 13 receptions against the Miami Dolphins, which is the most receptions by a rookie tight end in NFL history.
The Las Vegas Raiders may not be having the season Bowers was hoping for, but he is already making a name for himself and showing that he could one day become the best tight end in the league.
The second Bulldog who is off to a fast start in their rookie season is wide receiver Ladd McConkey. McConkey is third on the rookie receiving yards list with 615 yards so far this year.
McConkey is definitely more of a surprise so far this year compared to Bowers. Not that anyone doubted that he could find success in the NFL, but most felt it would take him a little time to get adjusted to playing in the NFL. But that clearly hasn’t been the case as he’s been a big reason why the Chargers are off to their shocking 7-3 start.
It will be exciting to see how both Bowers and McConkey finish their seasons this year. All signs point towards them finishing just as hot as they’ve been, and in McConkey’s case he’ll likely have a chance to do it in the playoffs this season as well.
But their success just goes to show how often Georgia’s players are able to find success on the field in the NFL, which should only help in recruiting for UGA as well.
