Now that the college football season is over, everyone is now looking ahead to the 2025 season that will begin later this fall. Many publications have already released their initial preseason top 25 rankings with others predicting the National Championship winner. Predictions are extremely hard to make this early in the year, but that never stops any of us from doing our best with both team predictions and inidividual predictions as well.
And one of those predictions that people are beginning to make is the winner of the 2025 Heisman Trophy. Some people have even begun making wagers on the winner as Vegas oddsmakers have already released odds for a lot players already.
And the oddsmakers on FanDuel Sportsbook have two Georgia football stars included that have some surprising odds.
QB Gunner Stockton
The likely starter for Georgia at quarterback next season is Gunner Stockton. So it really isn't surprising to see that Stockton is included in the Heisman betting odds, but his odds do seem a little high at +3300.
These odds are the 15th best in the country, which again is a little surprising. Stockton will likely have a great season for Georgia this year if he is named starter, but will it be good enough to contend for the Heisman Trophy? Likely not.
Stockton showed that he is more than capable of being a solid quarterback in his game and a half as starter this past season, but he didn't show anything that proves he will contend for the Hesiman. So while it is nice to see this respect given to Stockton, these odds don't seem to reflect how unlikely it will be for him to win the Heisman next season.
WR Zachariah Branch
Incoming wide receiver transfer Zachariah Branch was also given odds to win the Hesiman Trophy next season as well. His odds however are much lower than Stockton's which isn't surprising since this award regularly goes to a quarterback. And while Stockton's odds might be a little high right now, the odds given to Branch are far too low.
Branch was give +25000 odds to win the Heisman, which is the lowest odds given to anyone included on FanDuel's list. No one will argue that Branch should be one of the favorites right now, but these odds are disrespectful to Branch.
Branch will likely be the leading receiver for Georgia next season. There's a very high chance he finishes with a 1,000 yard season as well as double digit touchdowns. Sure these stats still wouldn't be enough to win the award, but it shows he should be higher up this list. But the thing that takes Branch over the top is that he likely will be Georgia's return man on special teams as well. So if he can run a few kicks back for touchdowns as well, then these odds will soar.
There likely won't be too many people that put any money on Branch to win the Heisman right now, but his odds surely will go up once the season begins. So use that information however you wish.
