Georgia football is officially after one of the top players in the transfer portal. The No. 3 overall player in the portal, USC transfer wide receiver Zachariah Branch, entered the portal on Tuesday, and Kirby Smart and Georgia were immediately named one of six teams to watch in his recruitment.

As one would probably assume, this recruitment will be very difficult to win because every school in the country could use someone as talented as Branch is. But it is a great sign for Georgia that they were named one of the top schools to watch in his recruitment. However, two interesting details have emerged surrounding his recruitment that could impact Georgia.

Do Not Contact tag

Pete Nakos with On3 reported late Tuesday night that Branch entered the portal with a Do Not Contact tag.

While Branch has that tag, teams are not allowed to directly reach out to him. It’s unclear why he chose to do this at this time, but the most likely scenario is that he knows which school or schools he is interested in, so he wants to reach out to them instead of being contacted by a large number of schools he isn’t even interested in. If that is the case, then Georgia has to hope they are a school he is interested in or he removes this tag so they can reach out.

Biggest wide receiver NIL deal ever

Another interesting note is that Branch could land the largest NIL deal for a wide receiver in the history of NIL.

Georgia does have deep pockets, so they do have the ability to compete financially with any program. However, it is unclear if UGA wants to get in a serious bidding war in the first place.

Georgia was originally named one of the teams to beat for the No. 1 player in the portal Eric Singleton Jr., but it was reported that his NIL package was extremely high and that may have scared Georgia off.

Who knows if this will prevent Georgia from going after Branch, but if Smart and UGA want to win this recruitment they are going to have to pay up.
