Georgia football and Kirby Smart have been aggressively targeting wide receivers in the transfer portal. One of those players was standout Georgia Tech receiver Eric Singleton Jr., who is the No. 1 player in the portal according to On3.
When Singleton first entered the portal, Georgia immediately became involved and got Singleton to come on a visit to Athens. Even a few days ago Georgia was thought to still be in the mix and potentially the team to beat in his recruitment.
But according to Hayes Fawcett with On3, that is no longer the case.
Georgia not included in Singleton's top 5
The above post shows that Singleton named his top five schools, which includes Auburn, LSU, Miami (FL), Texas and Ole Miss. It is not a surprise seeing any of those schools make the cut, but it is shocking to see Georgia excluded from that list.
Sometimes when players transfer, they choose to not show any interest in their current teams rivals, but that didn't seem to be an issue with Singleton when he originally entered the portal. So there must be something else gong on here.
It likely isn't a lack of interest from Georgia's end, because Singleton is one of the best receivers in the portal, but there is a chance that Georgia turned their attention to another receiver that may have turned Singleton off.
Kentucky transfer wide receiver Dane Key has been heavily involved with Georgia, so there is a chance that Georgia chose to focus more on him. There is also an equal chance that Singleton saw Smart tarrgeting Key, and decided that Georgia wasn't in his best interest anymore.
Regardless, Georgia is no longer in the running for Singleton, but as long as they are able to get a commitment from a different portal receiver like Key, then this won't be that bad of news when it's all said and done.
