College football officials have potentially the most scrutinized occupation in the country. Everyone knows how important officials are to sporting events, but nobody actually likes them, especially when calls aren't going their teams way.
Nobody should expect officials to be perfect, their mistakes are part of the game and what makes this sport so great. But at the same time, perfection is the goal especially when it comes to the biggest moments in the biggest games of the year. So when an offiial makes an incorrect call that has an immediate impact on the winner and loser of a game, that is when people get the most upset and when these officials need to be held accountable.
So in the spirit of celebrating poor officiating, On3's Pete Nakos released his top 10 worst calls of the 2024 season, and Georgia football was included on this list twice.
Pass Interference against Georgia Tech
The first play that featured Georgia on this list came in at the No. 4 spot on this list. Towards the end of the fourth quarter against Georgia Tech, there was a controversial pass interference flag thrown against Georgia Tech which gave the Bulldogs a 1st & Goal at the 2-yard line. The Bulldogs would go on to score a touchdown two plays later to cut the Yellow Jackets lead to seven.

Pass interference will always be one of the most debated calls, but Georgia Tech wasn't arguing the contact with the receiver. The Yellow Jackets were more upset regarding one of their players potentially tipping the ball at the line of scrimmage. In case you aren't familiar with this rule, pass interference no longer is possible once the ball is tipped, so no contact would warrant a flag if that is what happened.
It's still not 100 percent clear if the ball was tipped or not, but if it was tipped then this was the incorrect call. And without this pass interference being called on this fourth down play, Georgia likely loses this game in regulation.
Texas Pass Interference Overturned
Coming in at No. 3 on this list is another play featuring Georgia that everyone will remember. This play however did not go in the Bulldogs' favor.
Late in the third quarter, Carson Beck threw an interception against Texas that was returned inside Georgia's 10-yard line. Officials initially called pass interference which kept the ball in Georgia's possession and gave them an automatic first down. But just as play was about to resume after the penalty yards were marked off, the Texas fans began throwing debris on the field which caused a long delay in the game.
It was at this point that the officials got together and changed their minds about the pass interference call. They awarded Texas the interception which gave the Longhorns elite field position which they cashed in with a touchdown soon after.

Thankfully Georgia still went on to beat the Longhorns 30-15, but this decision gave Texas all the momentum for a brief moment in time and could have resulted in a comeback victory for the Longhorns. That however was not the case and Georgia got to celebrate their first of two victories against the Longhorns in their own stadium.
