According to the newest 247 Sports recruiting rankings, Eason has taken over the No. 1 spot in the nation for the class of 2016. Not that Dawg fans didn’t already know he was good, or that a boost in rankings is going to make him any better of a quarterback.
But when other potential recruits see that the nation’s top player has chosen Georgia, it can have lots of positive effects for the recruiting staff.
From 247 Sports assessment of Eason and why he was lifted to the No. 1 spot:
"Eason earned his spot atop the rankings after an outstanding performance at the Pylon 7on7 National Championships during which he led his team to an elite eight appearance in a field of over 100 teams. But it wasn’t a single 7on7 performance that elevated Eason to No 1. The 6-5, 205-pound Eason has what may be the top arm in the country but he also has a frame that has yet to fully mature and develop, he’s an athletic multi-sport athlete that hasn’t been focusing on year-round quarterback training for the better part of his development and he has the leadership qualities about him that you look for in a No. 1."
In comparison, other ranking reports have Eason at No. 1 (Rivals), No. 4 (ESPN300), and No. 22 (Scout.com).
If you think the quarterback position battle is wide open this year, just wait until Eason arrives on campus next Summer. Things will really heat up behind center.
