Georgia hosted vaunted 2016 backcourt commitments Tryee Crump (6-3 175 Bainbridge, Bainbridge) and Jordan Harris (6-4 165 Donalsonville, Seminole County). The two South Georgia pals committed to the Dawgs as a package deal nearly a year ago. Despite climbing the recruiting rankings, both have held firm in their commitment. With Crump a Rivals four star combo guard and Harris a Rivals four star shooting guard, this could be the best backcourt tandem ever signed by Georgia basketball.
With Fox’s best class of 2015’s Will Jackson, E’Torrion Wilridge and Derek Ogbeide on campus and awaiting until Crump’s and Harris’s arrival, the Dawgs are trying to reach even higher with the class of 2017. To that end, Georgia hosted practically the entire Georgia Stars 16 and under AAU team on Saturday.

Georgia Stars point guard Davion Mitchell ( 6-1 185), a 2017 a 247sports.com national 47 ranked recruit is likely headed to Auburn, but the Dawgs continue to attract Mitchell’s attention. Mitchell is a take no matter what guards the Dawgs have committed and on campus.
Mitchell’s 2017 Georgia Stars and Westlake running mate at shooting guard, Danny Lewis (6’4:170) will also visit Saturday.
While Lewis carries just three stars from Rivals, he may hold the key to the Bulldogs 2017 class. Ryan Lewis, Danny’s father, not only coaches Davion Mitchell and son Daniel Lewis for the Georgia Stars, he also coaches Rivals four star power forward and national 69 ranked player Chuma Okeke (6’7″, 210), another Westlake player, on the same Georgia Stars team.
The close relationship between Okeke, Lewis, and Mitchell along with the close relationship the players have with Coach Lewis bodes well for the Bulldogs.
But wait, there is more.
Much more.
Also playing for Coach Ryan Lewis’ Georgia Stars team is five star center and national Rivals national number 15 recruit Ikey Obiagu (6’ 11”). Obiagu plays his high school ball at Greenforest Christian Academy.
Also on the Georgia Stars roster is 2018 Rivals four star point guard Jamie Lewis (6’2 180). Another Westlake player, Lewis already has offers form Cal, Florida and Missouri. Lewis joined his teammates in Athens on Saturday.
Having so many great players so closely associated with each other is rare. Perhaps more rare than having two South Georgia pals like Crump and Harris make up the best backcourt recruiting class the Dawgs have seen. The Georgia Stars roster in combination with the Westlake High roster and Coach Ryan Lewis appreciation for Georgia basketball creates a tremendous opportunity for the Dawgs.
The key to Georgia climbing up the national basketball ladder into the rarefied air of the top 10 is the relationship Head Coach Mark Fox and his staff can develop and build with this group of teammates and friends. The Bulldogs must take advantage – the Stars may never align like this again.
