So . . . how about that Greyson Lambert, huh?

Last week your resident drinking enthusiasts demanded but one thing from these front- running Georgia Bulldogs: a smooth and easy game where the far more talented home team

visored

pantsed their underwhelming and under-performing SEC rival.

We got that, and then some.

And so as we head to the quarter mark of this young season we offer one final toast to a glorious Bulldogs 52-20 win over the palmetto state poultry. I am sure they will return to ruin our lives sometime soon. But not today Steve, not today.

We here at the Georgia Bulldog Mixology, I remind you, are loath to live in the past. And with that in mind our resident master mixologist, the sultan of the shaker, the baron of bar craft, Joey Vargas once again joins us from American Whiskey NYC with the perfect Georgia cocktail to enjoy this Saturday as the Southern University Jaguars invade Sanford Stadium for a high noon tilt on SEC Network. Take it away Joey.

“Since I figure this week is going to be a good ‘old fashioned’ whooping we’re going to do this old fashioned variation called a ‘Monte Carlo.’ This one is stiff and strong just like Dawgs will be on Saturday. The Monte Carlo is a way back drink from the 1948 book “The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks” by David A. Embury. A book that has meant a lot to my bar tending career.”

The Monte Carlo

Ingredients:

3 Dashes of Angostura Bitters

-5oz of Benedictine Liqueur (a French herbal liqueur with a closely guarded secret recipe with honey and clove notes)

-2.25 oz of Rye Whiskey

Directions:

  1. Stir (don’t shake) all ingredients together
  1. Serve over ice, with a big fat lemon twist (careful with that peeler!)

You see! It doesn’t get much easier than that folks. Just like the Georgia Bulldogs this lavish libation packs a bite, and will hold up against anything you can throw a it this week.

Usually this is where I preview this week’s opponent. This week, however, I will be circumventing our on-field opposition in favor of the true champions of this Saturday, the Human Junkebox of Southern University.

These guys are the real deal, y’all. With respect to the Redcoats if you have ever thought the traditional marching band halftime performance lacked a bit of pizzazz, tune in this Saturday to watch Southern take it up a notch. And then like seven more notches on top of that.

Don’t believe me? Ever hear of a little movie called Drum Line?! Are you SURE you’ve never heard of the Nick Cannon driven fish out of water tale of passion and redemption by the name of DRUM LINE?

Well, if you have, the Atlanta A&T Panthers are practically BASED on the Southern University Band Program! Right down to the yellow capes!

I am trying not to nerd out too much about this, but nothing you will see on the field (barring disaster) should be as enticing as the halftime show where both bands will unveil new performances.

Georgia should dominate on the offensive side of the ball come this Saturday, and if the Dawgs can swallow up talented Lenard Tillery at tailback Southern should not be able to move the ball on a stout Georgia defense. The Dawgs #1 concern should be controlling the game, playing healthy, and enjoying the perhaps best halftime show between the hedges in years. Let the good times roll, cause next week, Bama is coming, y’all. But until then . . .

Dawgs on top, and top me off!

Joey VargasAs head bartender at American Whiskey NYC, Joey Vargas brings his signature approachable charm to the crafted cocktail. A former Baseball player at USF, and a self-described “shot and a beer guy,” Joey became accidentally enamored with bar tending while working as a bartender at the John Dory Oyster Bar between 2011 and 2013. Wanting a craftsman not simply a mixologist behind the bar, Joey quickly rose through the ranks in NYC. Now, a head bartender at American Whiskey NYC, Joey spends his free time with his kickball team “The Rescue Rangers” and watching his dog Delgado chase squirrels.

Josh JohnsA University of Georgia graduate, Josh works for Valiant Comics in New York City. A tour guide in Nashville told him the origin of the term “hooker” and while there is not enough room to cover it here, it’s truly fascinating and worthy of your research.
