The Kentucky and Georgia football teams met for another November contest Saturday. The result was typical for this long though modest of rivalries. Kentucky challenged, Georgia met obstacles, and the game was decided in the second half.

That such is the norm did not prevent those such as Mark “Starkville” Bradley from reaching low to take every possible shot at Mark Richt and the Georgia team. (Same song five-millionth verse from Bradley.) Bradley did reveal the ultimate depth of his perception, however, with one word. “Dunno.” While the obvious has not yet been mastered, it was an improvement.)

No the game proved nothing. But the Georgia football team did not arrive at the Dawg Walk with something to prove. Georgia arrived with a game to win.

Mission accomplished.

Fans naturally were concerned that the distractions might prove too much for the team. They need not have worried. This team gets it.

Georgia football fans, however, did arrive with something to prove. Strong in numbers and one of voice, the Bulldog nation stomped, shouted, and shaker shook at every opportunity. And while willing the beloved Bulldogs to victory was job one, the Bulldog Nation re-wrote Glory, Glory to reflect their ultimate mission on this Saturday: Glory glory to ol’ Georgia, and to HELL WITH EVERYONE!

Kentucky Coach Stoops saw it coming, speaking to the press post-game, “That’s a prideful football team. You just gave them a chance to circle the wagons. You know what they’re all about, you knew that they were going to play good.” (Georgiadogs.com)

Yes, you writers did. And about that: enough is enough. Georgia has its coach. Georgia has its team. Georgia has four games left to play with a team roster growing healthy of mind and body. Challenges abound, but they look like speed bumps next to the Mount Everest of the past week.

For fans, it’s time to laugh off the rumors and un-follow some twitter accounts. Take this team’s lead and accept adversity, then move forward to face challenges.

And win or lose, we get to come back to Athens – just one reason it’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog.
