For all the people that thought Kirby Smart would make a big impact in recruiting after coming to Georgia, here is some great news to brag about.

According to Jeff Sentell of DawgNation, five-star recruit Richard LeCounte III committed to UGA Sunday. The 2017-prospect is the first commitment for Smart. He is rated as the No. 1 athlete in the class and the No. 22 overall prospect. The Riceboro, Georgia and Liberty County High product was clear about wanting to commit early to help bring in other recruits in the next year to fill out his class at Georgia.

LeCounte, a 5’11’’, 174-pounder, does not only have interest from the SEC, but he is also attracting many schools from across the country. He currently has 19 offers, including five SEC schools and powerhouses Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan and Florida State. 247Sports still gives Ohio State a solid chance to swing him, but at the moment he is sticking with his in-state school.

The junior standout is the definition of an all-around athlete playing quarterback, running back, wide receiver, safety and returning punts and kickoffs. His athleticism is undeniable with an impressive leaping ability and terrific hands.

His commitment was the school’s fourth in the 2017 class until pro-style quarterback Bailey Hockman de-committed from Georgia Monday morning. Along with LeCounte, the Bulldogs have 2017-commitments from four-star prospects Devonta Smith (Amite, LA, Amite High School) and Deejay Dallas (Brunswick, GA, Glynn Academy. Smith (6’1’’, 155-pounds) is Louisiana’s sixth best player and the 15th-rated wide receiver in the country, while Dallas (6’0’’, 175-pounds) is the No. 24-rated athlete and No. 236th overall player in the country.

With the 2016 class wrapping up in February, these core members of the 2017 class will play an integral role in the future commitments of other top recruits in the nation.
