Georgia Football 2017 Preview: Tennessee Volunteers
What do they do not so well:
The Vols lost a lot of weapons from the 2016 team. They lost their top two running backs in Kamara and Jalen Hurd. While one went to the NFL, the later decided he would rather sit out a year and finish his career out at Baylor than stay at Tennessee. That’s kind of insane considering he was the Vols top offensive weapon in his sophomore year and rushed for 1285 yards and scored 14 touchdowns.
They are also not blessed with wide receivers. With Malone going pro, their biggest threat is now gone and John Kelly has not shown that he can be a consistent threat. They have not been able to really bring in any particularly exciting recievers in the past few classes so they are a bit light there. This is where losing Hurd hurts even more. He has decided that he wants to play WR at Baylor. That’s exactly the kind of explosive player the Vols need in 2017. Pushing him out of the door is a double blow.
Lastly their run defense really needs to improve in 2017. Last year they allowed opponents to rush for just under 220 yards a game. That’s a lot of yards and UGA can take advantage of that. I just hope Nick Chubb and Sony Michel can avoid injury. Neyland Stadium has left a lot of running backs injured over the last few years.
