An edited version of “Friday Night” by Brantley Gilbert

More from Dawn of the Dawg

Who better to start this list than an artist from just 15 minutes up U.S. Highway 129 from Athens. Gilbert is from Jefferson, which just so happens to be my home town so there may be some bias in this. And the song “Friday Night” was written about Jefferson High School, a team I’ve covered numerous times for my local newspaper.

So clearly with references to high school football in Jefferson specifically, Gilbert would have to edit the lyrics so they go with college football in Athens. But looking at the lyrics, that shouldn’t be too difficult.

It would be the perfect replacement for “Baba O’Riley” because it’s not a political ballad by a british band. It’s an upbeat song about football performed by an artist who has spent much of his life around Athens.
