Running backs lineup in the slot

Georgia has the best running back corps in the conference. The group is more than just Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. Sophomores Brian Herrien and Elijah Holyfield are very talented. Plus Chubb and Michel have said some encouraging things about freshman D’Andre Swift.

But one issue with having a strong stable of backs is finding ways to utilizing them. Last year, Chubb and Michel split time with Herrien getting some carries every now and then. Michel and Herrien are just too good to always be standing on the sidelines when they’re not in the backfield.

If the first week of camp is any indication, we will see a lot more out of Michel and Herrien this season. Both of them, as well as Swift have lined up as slot receivers.

If this does end up becoming part of Georgia’s offense in 2017, it will be an interesting and possibly dangerous wrinkle. Georgia needs to put the ball in Michel and Herrien’s hands as much as possible. And one of them in the slot with Chubb in the backfield will prohibit defenses from loading the box as often.
