Overview:

Overall, it was a decent win for the dawgs and they were able to secure the win thanks to their main strengths. Nick Chubb and Sony Michel both looked good and offensively really led this team. Javon Wims was a very pleasant surprise and made 2 big time catches that really helped Jake Fromm. Fromm looked poised for a freshman, but don’t let his box score fool you, he wasn’t particularly accurate. He made several bad decisions that worked out because his teammates bailed him out.

I’m not trying to bad dog him. He delivered a really good performance for a true freshman who was a backup. However, fans should be hoping Jacob Eason is able to return soon. Fromm would need to dramatically improve if by the time we get to SEC play otherwise.

On defense, the unit looked impressive. While App State are not world beaters, they are prolific on offense. They were completely shut down for most of the game and that was because Georgia’s D is really good. It looked impressive across the board and several of its stars looked good. JR Reed and Richard LeCounte both stood out to me in the secondary, however. Both could be real impact players if they continue to grow as the season goes on.

Next: Bulldogs who need to step up in week 2.

All in all, this was an impressive start to the season. The team played much better than they did in these sorts of games last year. That’s a positive sign and one that hopefully shows what we can expect in 2017. Now we just have to wait and see what the doctor says about Eason’s injury.
