Jake Fromm held serve.

Credit where credit is due, Jake Fromm is no normal backup QB. Had Jacob Eason gone down last year in a game like this, we would have had cause for concern. Jake Fromm was a 5-star prospect in the 2017 class. There are high expectations that he’s going to be the starter at UGA one day. He showed on Saturday why that is the case.

The stage never looked too big for him. He looked comfortable in the pocket and got the ball out of his hands quickly when he needed to. The offense moved pretty well when he was in the game. Overall, he looked good, particularly when you consider the circumstances. He also didn’t make any big mistakes that could have thrown UGA’s gameplan out the window. Well, he made mistakes, they just were not punished.

However, his performance was not an indication that he is ready to be the starter. At least not on a team that is seriously going to contend for the SEC East. He made 5 very bad throws that would have had very different results against a better defense. A decent SEC defense would have had at least 2 interceptions that would have changed the game. Georgia needs Jacob Eason back if it’s going to have a chance to win the SEC East this year.

That being said, UGA can win a few games with Fromm behind center. He showed us enough that even if Georgia does sign the nations 2018 #1 QB in Justin Fields, he’ll be in a fight for the job. He showed dawg nation that he’s going to be a good player one day. It’s pretty normal for that development to take a bit of time.
