After a big first week of college football, the NFL is back. That means that Georgia Football fans won’t just have UGA to cheer after. Several former favorites will hopefully be showing out in the NFL this week. He’s a quick look at some of the former dawgs to look out for this weekend.
Todd Gurley, RB LA Rams
Gurley had a bad 2016, no other way to put it. After exploding onto the scene in 2015, he alongside the rest of the Rams team flopped last year. That led to head coach Jeff Fisher getting fired and the hiring of Sean McVay from Washington. McVay did a great job with the offense when he was in the nation’s capital but don’t let his youth fool you. A lot of very smart people believe that he has what it takes to be a successful head coach.
McVay has never had a player like Gurley in the backfield though. As Georgia fans know, he is a special talent if he is put in a position to succeed. There is no doubt that the Rams offensive line was a disaster last year and that didn’t help Gurley at all. If that can just become functional, he has the ability to once again be a special player in the NFL. This is a guy who dominated College from day 1 after all.
2017 is a big year for the former dawg. Gurley needs to show the league that 2016, not 2015 was the fluke and that he can be a dominant back in this league. He has all the potential to become a household name in the NFL. That’s something all dawg fans want to see.
The Rams host the Colts this week and that is not a good defense. Gurley should be able to show the league this week that he is back to his best. He’s certainly a player to watch out for in week one if you’re a dawg fan. When he’s on form, there are few players who are more fun to watch.
The Rams play the Colts on Sunday at 4.05pm EST.
