Georgia Football: Dawgs in the NFL Week 1
Malcolm Mitchell, WR New England Patriots
Mitchell made a name for himself the past season. He came alive during the playoffs and became one of the receivers Tom Brady trusted. His catches and touchdown were crucial to the Pats winning the Superbowl.
Fast forward a season and Mitchell is even more important to the Pats. When Julian Edelman was lost for the season with a knee injury, it meant that those plays and catches were going to have to go elsewhere. Even with a new target in Brandin Cooks in the fold, Mitchell will likely see the ball more in 2017.
That’s not going to be a bridge too far for Mitchell who has the ability to be more involved in an offense. The Pats will always spread the ball around and use multiple weapons, but he will be one of the main ones this week. The Patriots take on a Kansas City team that has a strong defense with an excellent secondary. They are going to need Mitchell to make some big time catches to help stretch the field.
The Patriots play the Chiefs tonight at 8.30pm EST
