This week Georgia Football take on the Samford Bulldogs from Birmingham, Alabama. What player on Samford’s roster should be the focus of Georgia’s attention?

After shutting down Brandon Wimbush last week, Georgia Football takes on a very different QB this week. This week, their defense faces a very different challenge. They will need to watch out for Samford quarterback Devlin Hodges. Hodges is a redshirt junior from Kimberly, Alabama. He has made 19 career starts at quarterback for the Bulldogs thus far in his career.

Hodges thrives in Samford’s up-tempo, pass-heavy offense and has emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in the FCS over the last couple of seasons. In 2016, he won the SOCON player of the year award while throwing for over 4,000 yards and 36 touchdowns. He is not the runner than Wimbush or Taylor Lamb are, but he can really sling it.

Hodges has already set multiple school records for Samford football and led the Southern Conference in several statistical categories last season. This season, he has thrown for 588 yards and 7 touchdowns while leading Samford to a 2-0 record so far this season.

I’ve seen this guy play in person and he is a friend of mine. He has an excellent arm, great field vision, and exceptional pocket presence. He is a great leader for Samford’s team. This is going to be a very different game for UGA because Samford relies on the pass. UGA is going to rely a lot more on its secondary than it has the past 2 weeks.

Georgia fans might be a little surprised on Saturday when they see an FCS quarterback that can throw the football like Hodges can. Georgia’s defensive backs will certainly get a great deal of work going up against this Samford offense.
