This Kirby guy can build a defense.

If there’s one thing anyone who has watched Georgia this year can agree on, it’s that this defense is elite. When you look at the statistics of UGA’s opponents in every other game and how they have done vs Georgia, it’s quite remarkable. Teams are averaging just 269 yards a game against this unit. Each of these 4 teams, however, is averaging around the 500-yard mark in their other 4 games. That is how good this defense is.

It’s not just statistics. Football purists should love watching Georgia right now because they make defense fun to watch. The defensive line is a real handful. They have a 7 or 8 man rotation that is always fresh and always disrupting the offensive line. That is giving what might be the nations best linebacking units all sorts of space to just go nuts.

I don’t know what else I can say about Roquan Smith that hasn’t already been said. The guy has to be one of the top ILB’s in the entire nation. He’s just an absolute monster out there.  The secondary also did really well this game, picking off its first two passes of the year. They absolutely can do that if the offense builds up a lead and forces teams to throw.

They also just seem to love hitting people and that certainly makes the game fun. National commentators might choose to spend another week or two talking about how Mississippi State was overrated anyway so this game didn’t matter but don’t let that fool you. UGA won this game in part because they have an elite defense. Sit back and enjoy it for the rest of the season.
