Freshmen stepping up.

Although there has been a solid improvement from those three players, what has really helped is two young players. Andrew Thomas and Solomon Kindley have stepped in and brought size as well as a new level of talent to this line. Both weigh comfortably over 300lbs and they both have the ability to move defenders off the line of scrimmage.

Andrew Thomas has been fantastic as a true freshman. He has held down the right tackle position since the first snap of the season and while he has by no means been perfect, he’s already been better than who manned that position last year. That’s really impressive for someone who only arrived on campus back in June. He’s continued to get better as each game continues and looks like he’s going to be a really solid left tackle for UGA in the future.

Kindley has taken his time getting into the team. Unlike Thomas, he’s been a bit banged up as a result, has not played as much. He started against Mississippi State however and made a huge difference. He did a fantastic job moving a decent defensive line and he opened several holes for the running backs.

Kindley injured his ankle at the end of the game which is a big shame. Hopefully he should be back soon because he made a big impact last week. Both of these youngsters are solidifying their positions in the lineup going forward.
