Georgia Football looking to get healthy during ‘work week’
Reggie Carter and the linebackers:
While there are several linebackers who are hurting, the main absence is not injury related. Natrez Patrick’s arrest for marijuana possession carries a 4 game suspension. At best he will return to the team for the Auburn game. I don’t want to go into his decision hurting the team too much, but it’s worth noting that he has made life more difficult for this unit. His physical play in the middle has been sorely missed the past 2 weeks, particularly against the run.
It has also hurt that Reggie Carter has missed the last 2 games. Carter is the 3rd ILB and rotates in for both Patrick and Roquan Smith normally. With Patrick out, he would be a natural to start. He would also mean that Smith can take plays off. Backups Monty Rice and Juwan Taylor are not experienced enough yet to know the defensive calls.
Davin Bellamy has also battled an injury. The OLB had to play with a cast on his hand the other week due to a minor broken bone. It’s got to be hard for him to make plays with that and so this time off will be much needed. He has really improved so far this season and we need him back to his best against Florida.
This week off should give both of those guys time to heal. Carter will be 4 weeks removed from his concussion by the Florida game. Bellamy will be the same from his broken bone. While the unit will miss Patrick, it should play much better with Carter back adding extra depth and Bellamy rushing at full speed.
