Georgia Bulldogs have three former players in the World Series
By Mike Stowe
I know it’s football season and its Florida week. But let’s just take a minute to recognise 3 Georgia Bulldogs who will be playing in the World Series this year.
A few former Bulldog baseball will get to experience being on a roster for a World Series team. The Fall Classic begins tonight at 8:09 as the Houston Astros take on the L.A. Dodgers. The Dawgs will be well represented there with 3 players on the Dodgers.
Josh Fields is a relief pitcher for the Dodgers. His hometown is Hull, a small town just a few miles out of Athens. He played for UGA from 2005-2008 and was a 1st round draft pick for the Seattle Mariners. He once played for L.A.’s World Series opponent, the Houston Astros.
Kyle Farmer is a catcher for the Dodgers. He played high school ball for Marist out of Atlanta and actually appeared in the movie “The Blind Side” during his time there. Having played for Georgia from 2010-2013, he was drafted by L.A. in the 8th round of the 2013 MLB draft.
Alex Wood is perhaps the most well-known of the 3. As part of the Dodgers starting rotation in 2017, Wood has posted a 16-3 record with a 2.72 ERA. He made his Major League debut for the Atlanta Braves in 2013 and has since worked his way into being one of the top 20 pitchers in the game today. His 2017 season has included a scorching 10-0 start that had him getting some Cy Young award consideration. Wood was selected to the 2017 MLB All Star team as a result of his success.

I guess those 3 guys make it natural for us to cheer for the Dodgers in this series. Of course, I’m not entirely sure those of us who are Braves fans can quite bring ourselves to that. Particularly after we gave away Wood for the failed Hector Oliviera project…
