Georgia Football 2018 recruiting class starting to shape out
Kirby Smart has ‘rich program’ problems right now:
It’s good to be a Georgia Bulldog fan right now. It’s been great for a year, but this December has been something else. Not only do we all get to bask in an SEC Championship win, but we also get to look forward to the CFP for the first time ever.
Thanks to the early signing period, however, we also get to enjoy recruiting. Because UGA can get a lot of wins right now on the recruiting trail. To do so, Kirby Smart is going to have to become a bit more like his old mentor in Nick Saban.
Players like Becton and Brule are good and you want good in your program. But the top programs, the ones that compete for championships every year, they go out there and get great players. They don’t just do this every now and then, they do it every year. They get great talent to fight and push another great talent for a job and everyone gets better.
It sucks that part of this means that sometimes, you have to move on from a kid that you like. I have no doubt that Kirby would want to take Brule and Becton if he could, but the NCAA and SEC resrict how many recruits he can sign. It’s his job to put emotion aside and make sure he signs the best players he can possibly sign every year.

That’s hard. There is a reason that not many coaches do it every year, but it’s what the elite do. Right now, Smart has to decide what good players, he can live without. He has to figure out how he can fit the 23 or 24 best possible players into this class. That’s the definition of ‘rich program’ problems right there because he’s going to turn good players down. That’s the world UGA fans are living in right now. Damn it’s good to be a Dawg!
