Georgia Football 2018 recruit: Nations Top QB Justin Fields
What type of player is he?
Fields is a truly special talent. His athletic ability jumps off the screen when you watch him play and Harrison lent on that a lot in high school. But when he went to camps, it was clear just how good of a passer Fields is. He’s a lot more developed than someone with his skill set normally is at this point in his career.
Fields has played on Cam Newton’s 7 on 7 team for some time and in some ways, Fields is similar to Newton. While he’s not quite as big, he runs in a very similar way and he has a cannon for an arm. But he’s more developed than Newton was at this age, quite a bit more actually. He’s also a competitor. This is a player who has no fear of a true freshman who has just won the SEC. Fields wants to beat out the best to win his job. He’s very much like Jake Fromm in that regard.
When you watch the highlights, you understand what QB gurus keep talking about. Trent Dilfer, the former NFL QB and the head of the Elite 11 has a tonne of praise for Fields. This is a transcendent player, the kind of guy that changes a program and elevates those around him.
I’m not trying to pile pressure on the kid, but Fields is special. He’s the kind of guy who can be that next generation QB like Deshaun Watson. As good as he is with his legs, Fields can become an even better passer and UGA has the scheme and the surrounding cast to make that happen. He’s a one of a kind talent and to be honest, we’ve never seen anything quite like him in Athens before.
