Georgia Football 2018 recruit: WR Kearis Jackson
What type of player is he?
Standing at just under 6ft tall, Jackson will likely find his home in the slot. He’s a similar type of player to both Terry Godwin and Mecole Hardman in that regards. It’s natural to imagine that he will find a home in the slot playing as a shifty receiver. However, there is more to Jackson than just someone who can play in the slot.
Like Godwin, I could see him making an impact on the outside as well. While I am not sure that he will start on the outside straight away, I wouldn’t be shocked to see him out there eventually. We have seen several receivers who are around Jackson’s size thrive on the outside in recent years.
Antonio Brown in the NFL is the greatest example of this. While I’m not comparing Jackson to the best receiver in the world, Brown is a blueprint that Jackson can strive towards. Despite what some think, I really do believe that Jackson can be much more than just a slot player.
He’s a strong guy who knows how to throw a block or two. That should help get him on the field earlier because that matters to Kirby Smart. He is also explosive when he gets the ball in his hands. Jackson was a great punt returner in high school and he will certainly push for time in that position.
There will be plenty of ways that UGA can use a talent like Jackson during his time in Athens. I think he could well end up being a natural successor to Godwin eventually. I certainly can’t wait to see him on the same field as Mecole.
