Cade Mays, True Freshman

Cade Mays is a bad, bad man. He’s not quite the physical prospect that Wilson is, although he’s still very impressive. He’s hardly short considering he’s 6-6 and he’s already close to 320lbs. Mays doesn’t quite have the feet and elite athleticism that Wilson possesses, however, but he’s not that far off. While he might not be a left tackle, the guy could be a serious talent on the right side.

The thing about Mays that really separates him from other is his attitude. I wrote about it in my preview of him the other week, but Mays is just a downright nasty player. He seems to revel is hitting people. To say that Mays has a mean streak is to underestimate what mean looks like.

Count me in as one of the people who think that Mays has a legit chance to win this job. Even though Wilson has more experience and is a physical freak, there is just something about Mays that jumps off the tape. He is going to push Wilson really hard no matter what.

Mays might well end up playing guard one day, but right now, he’s in the battle for right tackle. The fact that he’s an early enrollee gives him a chance to work against Wilson and the rest of the competition this spring and that’s big. Wilson arrived late in the summer so he was behind compared to some of his fellow player last year. Mays won’t have that issue.
