Georgia Football 2018 recruit: Offensive Tackle Owen Condon
What can we expect in Athens?
I think that Condon is going to take some time to make a mark in Athens. The left tackle role is pretty much set for the next couple of years with Andrew Thomas after his great rookie year. Isaiah Wilson and Cade Mays are going to battle it out for the right tackle spot in spring and summer training.
Condon is probably going to redshirt this year after his knee injury. He’s going to need a full year to adjust to the speed and strength of the SEC, especially having missed his entire senior year. But long-term, he looks like a natural successor to Thomas at left tackle.
Condon is more mobile than Wilson and Mays which is why I think he’s going to be perfect for that left side. His length also really sets him apart and should give him a chance against most pass rushers.
One of the things that has really impressed me while doing this, is just how nasty these 5 new linemen are. Sam Pittman hasn’t just recruited large men here. These guys throw defensive players around and they seem to enjoy it. You can see that it’s about more than just size with Pittman, he wants that aggression in his players. He’s found that in all 5 of them.
Next: How about we check out Warren Ericson as well?
The future of this offensive line is undoubtedly bright. Condon is the final part of the 2018 ‘Great Wall of Georgia’ and if he’s the least regarded of the 5 players, good lord that’s terrifying for other teams. It will take him a while to get on the field, but when he does, I can’t wait to see Condon play.
