This is just the beginning.

But as hurt, as I am, I do have to admit that this is different to other losses. This does feel like the beginning of something, rather than the end. 2017 was one of the greatest in the history of our program and it was only Kirby Smart’s second season as head coach. Let’s make a quick list of the accomplishments.

In 2017, Georgia swept and of course won the SEC East, beat Notre Dame in the program’s first game ever in South Bend, beat Tennessee, Florida and Tech by a combined score of 121-14, avenged its only loss of the season by beating Auburn 3 weeks later, won the SEC championship, made the playoffs for the first time becoming the first SEC team besides Alabama to do so, beat the Oklahoma Sooners in what was arguably the greatest Rose Bowl ever and nearly knocked off big bad Bama.

This was supposed to take some time for Kirby. We were supposed to have to wait until the talent got better. Apparently not. While rivals fans mock us, deep down, they should be terrified. Kirby did all of that and we’re actually getting better thanks to this 2018 class. Let that sink in. Did that loss hurt? Of course. It hurt us as fans. It hurt Kirby Smart and these awesome Dawg seniors like Nick Chubb and Sony Michel even more.

But when the time comes and we do win it all, those will have been the guys that laid the foundation. This team and staff blazed a path that molded the future for this program and made one thing perfectly clear…….Georgia isn’t just coming.  Georgia is HERE.
