Georgia Football fans have had a lot to cheer about on the recruiting trail this winter already, but Otis Reese is another kid to keep an eye on.
After cleaning up back in December, you’d be forgiven for thinking that recruiting season was over for the Georgia Football team. Kirby Smart signed 20 players. 6 of whom were 5-star players. No, you didn’t read that wrong, 6. That means that UGA currently has the number 1 recruiting class in the country.
But there are still a few more spots to go and UGA is fighting hard to get the best possible players to fill them. With national signing day now 10 days away, I thought I’d start diving into some of the names that Dawg fans should know.
Right now, it looks like the Dawgs have either 4 or 5 spots (depending who you believe) up for grabs in this class. They seem to be actively recruiting about 8 or 9 players for those positions. So let’s take a quick look at another of those players who could end up in Athens.
Otis Reese has the ability to fit in a lot of places for Georgia.
Reese is a player that a lot of people in Georgia are excited about. That’s probably because he plays the game in an incredibly physical way. Reese loves to hit people. I mean, he LOVES to hit them. I haven’t seen film of a guy who hits like this in this entire 2018 class. When he has a chance to light someone up, he takes it.
But Reese is more than just a big hitter. He’s incredibly athletic and that means that he has the ability to really do it all. The big question for him is where would he play if he came to Georgia? UGA has loaded up on OLB’s this class which is what Reese is down as. But he could well find himself playing as an ILB perhaps. He has that kind of profile.
The big issue with Reese is that he’s not committed to coming to Georgia. In fact, he’s currently committed to Michigan. That’s the same school that his good friend Aubrey Solomon went to last year. Solomon probably came the closest to breaking UGA fans hearts in the 2017 class. The coaches really wanted to keep him home, but they couldn’t quite do it.
They’ll be hoping to do that with Reese although it will be tough. He’s been committed to Michigan for a long time and that bond with Solomon is important. Yes, the school is a long way away, but having one of your best friends there helps. He does seem to be strongly considering UGA however. It might be a long shot, but this is a battle Kirby Smart could end up winning.

The one thing going against Kirby on this is playing time. Reese is a very talented player and he has a clear shot to start soon at Michagin. He might end up having to wait a bit at Georgia. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him put on the Red and Black this time next week, but ultimately, I think this is one recruit who Georgia can’t quite flip.
