Georgia Basketball loses to South Carolina 66-57
Georgia Basketball lost a game that it absolutely had to have tonight. They fell to South Carolina 66 – 57 who just seemed to want the win more than the Bulldogs.
This is becoming an uncomfortable feeling for Georgia Basketball fans. Once again the Bulldogs went into a game that they had to win against South Carolina. Once again, they failed to deliver against a team that wasn’t at it’s best.
As I said before the game, this is not last years South Carolina. The 2018 version was very much there for the taking for the Bulldogs who unfortunately had another poor game. The Dawgs turned the ball over 17 times to the Gamecocks. You read that correctly, 17 TIMES.
South Carolina shot just 31% from the field for the entire game and still won comfortably. There were a few moments where UGA looked like they might wake up, but unfortunately, those were short and followed by periods of even worse play.
This was another performance that summed how disappointing this season has been for the Bulldogs. Yante Maten and his teammates tried their best, but once again, they looked tired and lost for much of the game. Time and again this season, Georgia has failed to look ready for games they need to win.
This loss pretty much puts the nail in the coffin for UGA making the tournament this season. It’s been a truly disappointing year for Mark Fox who has simply not made the most of 4 years of Yante Maten. It’s an all too familiar ending after we saw something similar last season with JJ Fraizer.
Next: Why this game was a must win
Now is not the time to debate whether Fox is the man to lead the Bulldogs, the loss is too fresh. However, it’s hard to ignore that in his ninth season, this Georgia team has completely failed to deliver and that is becoming far too common.
