2018 Georgia Football NFL Draft Prospect: RB Nick Chubb
How good has his offseason been?
A better 2017 season has already raised Nick Chubb’s draft stock. Much like Sony Michel, the disappointing 2016 campaign had many thinking that he would be a late-round pick. But a strong year, where he seems to have regained some of his explosiveness have ended those feelings.
His Combine performance really opened some eyes and showed that he was actually a better athlete than a lot of scouts realized. He ran the 40-yard dash in a quicker time than Sony Michel and had the 6th fastest time of the running backs. Chubb also benched 225lbs 29 times, which is insane and had one of the top vertical and broad jump performances.
Then, at UGA’s pro day, Chubb did a lot of work out of the backfield, showing that he could catch the ball. This has long been an area where scouts think that he needs to work on. But the fact is that UGA doesn’t really have those plays in their offense. It’s never been a case of Chubb not being able to catch or run routes, he’s simply never been given that chance.
While a lot of athletes who are going to be drafted head to special training camps for the build-up, Chubb has gone back home. He’s returned to Cedartown and is training with his old track coach. While some might think he’d be better served at a flashy camp, that’s just not Nick Chubb. The guy is a hometown guy and we love him for it. He’s an incredibly hard worker and I don’t doubt he’ll be ready to go when he gets drafted.
