2018 Georgia Football NFL Draft Prospect: RB Nick Chubb
Projected draft grade and potential landing spots:
Chubb has certainly risen up draft boards compared to last year. Whereas it looked like he would be a day 3 selection in 2017, this year, I don’t think he makes it outside of day 2. He’s going to go somewhere in the second or third round and it’s really just a matter of how he fits in with teams.
Right now, Chubb is probably the number 5 running back on a lot of boards. While Sony Michel, Derrien Guice and Ronald Jones battle it out for the 2-4 spots, most scouts have Chubb as the 5th guy. Personally (and you can call me a homer), I like Chubb more than Jones. I just don’t see all the hype when it comes to Jones and I really think that right now, Chubb is an underrated player. For me, he should be a second-round pick.
There are a lot of franchises where Chubb would be a great fit. The Bucs just lost their running back and aren’t going to take one at pick 7. I’m pretty sure the Dolphins don’t have a running back, sorry Frank Gore. The Lions certainly do need somebody, anybody to run the ball. The Bills have 2 second round picks and could be thinking about a life without LeSean McCoy. The 49ers also have a late 2nd round pick and they could really use a guy to run the rock with Carlos Hyde now gone.
The Giants have needed a running back like Chubb in forever. Maybe the top of the second is a bit high for him, but if he slips into the 3rd and they don’t take Saquon Barkley, that’s a huge win for them.
