Great command of the huddle:

Last but not least, there is the mental side of the game. Jake Fromm is talented, but it’s his intangibles that made him successful last year. The guy is smart and incredibly poised. Nothing phases him and that is why he was so successful as a freshman.

On Saturday, Fields showed those same qualities. Will he be able to do it in the SEC Championship game or a Rose Bowl when we’re down 17? We won’t know until he sees those moments, but he certainly looked ready.

He often made good decisions and several times, he stopped himself from running and passed to an open man. Fields led a young and inexperienced unit and always had them lined up and organized. In short, he really did not look like a kid who should really still be in high school right now.

Kirby Smart talked about it after that game. Both QB’s have great command of the huddle right now. Fromm will be better. He knows the playbook inside and out and Fields still has a lot to learn, but he clearly knew what he was doing at G-day. I don’t doubt that he still has a long way to go in this regards, but Fields is already ahead of the eight ball.

Look, I’m not trying to say that Fields is going to win the job. That is both disrespectful to Jake Fromm and SEC Football. The guy was GREAT last year. But anyone with eyes could tell that there is something special about Fields when they watched him for the first time between the hedges. One practice session does not make a career, but this was a heck of a start.
