4. Brian Herrien – Running Back

Brian Herrien is certainly the forgotten running back for Georgia football. DeAndre Swift is the new start in town and Elijah Holyfield is working hard to improve his conditioning so he can have a breakout year. Then there’s all the attention incoming freshmen Zamir White and James Cook have received.

No one talks about Herrien, and they’ll continue to be the case. But is that a bad thing. Probably not if his stats from G-Day carry over into the 2018 season. He carried the ball five times for 34 yards. That’s solid with a running game that isn’t built around him. But he also caught four passes for 44 yards, that was second best for the afternoon.

Herrien isn’t going to rush for 1,000 yards this year or next. But if his stats game-to-game can resemble his G-Day stats, he’ll prove himself as a valuable player. We saw last year how Jim Cheney likes using multiple running backs at once with each playing a different role. Herrien clearly has a role as a hybrid runner and receiver. It’s a role that I think he’s embracing.

3. Deandre Baker – Cornerback

Oddly, Baker is the only returning starter on this list. That’s what he gets for scoring a defensive touchdown by picking off Jake Fromm. Besides that interception, he was classic Baker. Didn’t get beat too often and caught up enough to try to break up a pass.

The less you can say about a cornerback, the better. That means they are shutting down their receiver. And when Baker’s name was called, he made plays. That’s exactly the kind of game we’ve come to expect from Baker. Hopefully, G-Day was the beginning of a great final season for him.
