Georgia Basketball and Tom Crean got their first commitment since the head coaches arrival in the form of combo guard Tye Fagan.

Tom Crean didn’t waste much time. With one scholarship left available for the upcoming season, he made it clear when he arrived that he would pursue a player. He found what he was looking for today. Tye Fagan, a combo-guard from Upson-Lee GA will join the Bulldogs 2018 signing class.

Fagan can play both guard spots equally well. He was released by Middle Tennessee after the coaching staff he committed to moved to Ole Miss. He was one of the hottest commodities on the player market this spring. Fagan was a top-flight playmaker on his high school team and led them to 63 straight wins to finish his career.

His commitment is a big coup for Crean. Fagan was expected to visit Xavier this weekend but canceled the visit after his commitment. Georgia struggled with guard play last season under Mark Fox. UGA fans will be hoping that Fagan is able to come in right away and make a difference. He will join Amanze Ngumezi and Jojo Toppins in UGA’s 2018 class. Fagan will be the only guard of the group.

It’s a good start for Crean who will now shift his focus to the 2019 class. It also likely ends UGA’s pursuit of former commit Ashton Hagans. Hagans was a 2019 recruit but is expected to reclassify to 2018. He committed to Kentucky in April and is expected to join the program later this year.
