Georgia Football will hope to get a commitment from one of the top-ranked players in the country today in Grayson LB Owen Pappoe.
Well, after a month or so of chaos, Georgia Football fans will finally be able to move on. Inside linebacker Owen Pappoe has spent the past 6 weeks or so trending away from UGA and towards Auburn, if you believe insiders. It seems that he’s had his head turned by the prospect of playing like Roquan Smith. For a team that is, that did not develop Roquan Smith. Makes sense…
This evening, at 6.30pm, he’ll make his commitment. Now, there is a chance that he still picks Georgia. While it seems to be the fashionable pick that he goes to Auburn, this is recruiting. Nothing is entirely what it seems and even coaches don’t always know whats going on. This past month could have been a gigantic troll job, which would be hilarious.
But if he does choose Auburn, it’s important that UGA fans maintain some perspective. This is a 17-year-old kid deciding where he wants to go to school. It’s not personal and none of us should treat it like that. Do I think Pappoe will become ‘the next Roquan Smith’ at a school that hasn’t developed an NFL inside linebacker in more than a decade? No, I don’t, but it’s his decision.
But I really want to stress that fans shouldn’t get too despondent. There’s still 8 more months until December when Pappoe will actually sign with a school. Considering how good Kirby Smart is down the stretch at flipping players, this recruitment is definitely not over.
Next: Oh look, Georgia put a bunch of players into the NFL
So no matter what happens, I implore dawgnation to respect the kid’s decision. Let’s not be that fan base that attacks a teenager because he wants to go to a different school. If he chooses Auburn, then good for him, the Dawgs move on. It’s also just one more reason to beat the heck out of the Tigers in November. Then when we flip Pappoe in December, their War Eagle tears will be all the sweeter…
