Georgia Football: The ‘Wolfpack’ should be even better in 2018

The Wolfpack is just getting started:

What makes this unit so exciting is how young it is. Other than Walker, Grant is the oldest player that we are going to see in 2018 and he’s still just a sophomore. He’ll be joined by Beal, Cox and Anderson who all have the potential to be game changers. All of them will also develop over the next 3-4 years during their time in Athens.

Those guys will then be joined by Nolan Smith in 2019. Now I know it’s a bit early for us to ‘assume’ that a commit actually signs. In recruiting, you never really know but I still count Nolan in this group. He’s becoming a real cheerleader for the 2019 class and I think there’s a very high chance the guy ends up in Athens.

His arrival will likely mean that Georgia are 5 or 6 deep at this position group. They’ll have the depth and the talent to rotate players in for sets just like the do the defensive line and that is where things will get interesting. It’s hard to see how an offense can gameplan around waves of fresh and lightening fast players coming off the edge.

That’s where I think this unit is going to end up. Yes, there will be starters and guys who don’t play quite as much, but with this much depth, you can throw in all sorts of formations and looks. You can have Brenton Cox bull-rush a tackle for 3 reps and then send out Adam Anderson at the same guy and see if he can handle even more speed and length from fresh legs.

The nickname makes a lot more sense now that we can see the players that are a part of it. Kirby Smart is building a unit of alpha dogs that he can unleash against any offensive line. We all know that wolves hunt best in packs and right now, Georgia’s is starting to look pretty damn terrifying.
