Georgia football: One 2020 recruit the Dawgs can steal from Ohio State
With Ohio State about to fire head coach Urban Meyer, many programs including Georgia football may steal from the Buckeye’s recruiting classes.
After the news broke Wednesday and the idea of Urban Meyer being fired from Ohio State seemed like more of a reality, my attention turned towards recruiting. Thursday, I pondered which recruits from the 2019 class Kirby Smart could flip from Columbus to Athens.
But, 2019 might not be the only Ohio State class Georgia football steals a recruit from. The Buckeye’s 2020 class also features a highly sought after recruit from Georgia; Jake Wray. 247 Sports ranks Wray as the no. 93 junior in the nation, no. 14 offensive tackle and the no. 12 player in Georgia.
At 6’5 and 290 pounds, he can stand to gain some size. But he is another monster from the state of Georgia who would fit in perfectly on the offensive line Smart, Jim Cheney and Sam Pittman want in Athens.
Wray hails from Marietta where he attends Marietta High School. He committed to Ohio State on April 23 of this year after three visits and their initial offer on March 13, 2017. Georgia offered Wray a scholarship almost half a year sooner on November 28, 2016. Both Pittman and Cheney recruited Wray. Including Georgia, he has offers from 10 SEC schools. Alabama, Tennessee, Texas A&M and LSU were four of those schools.

With doubts about Meyer’s and the Ohio State program’s future, many prospects will reopen their recruitment. Especially the ones in Georgia with a newly mounted powerhouse in their state. Wray still has a long time before he can sign with any school. Approximately 16 months if he signs early, 18 if he signs on time.
That’s a lot of time for Smart, Cheney and Pittman to work the magic that has brought eight highly sought after offensive linemen to Georgia in two years.
