Georgia Football: Top Six kickers in the Bulldogs history
#3: Brandon Coutu
The No. 3 kicker in Georgia history is Brandon Coutu who kicked for the Dawgs from 2004 to 2007.
Coutu was one of Georgia’s biggest threats during his time as a Dawg. He helped the Dawgs win the 2005 SEC Championship. Despite suffering a hamstring tear midway through the 2006 season, he still goes down as one of the if not the most accurate kicker in Georgia football history.
While at Georgia, Coutu made 53-of-66 career field goals and was 114-of-114 on extra points. He was perfect at PAT’s in his time at Georgia, and that number sits at No. 3 on Georgia’s most consectivue PATs made.
According to Dave McMahon, a Georgia football historian, of the 13 missed field goals, only two of them were inside 40 yards.
He was 6-of-12 from 50-yards and further including a 58-yarder against Louisiana-Monroe in 2005. Coutu has the third longest field goal made by a Dawg behind Kevin Butler’s 59 and 60 yard ones. Those six 50-yarders tie for No. 3 on Georgia’s record books with Rex Robinson (1977-80) and Allan Leavitt (1973-76).
Coutu scored 273 points from 2004-07 including 53 field goals and 114 extra points. He put up 114 points in 2005 and 103 in 2007.
His 80.30 percent career field goal completion sits at No. 2 on Georgia’s records while his 90.90 percent completion percentage in 2006 ties with Blair Walsh’s 2009 season record at No. 3 in single-season field goal completions.
Coutu’s sheer accuracy puts him at the No. 3 spot on this list, and if Rodrigo Blankenship continues the path he’s on, then Coutu won’t be No. 3 for long.
