Georgia football begins fall camp on Friday, August 2 and the 2019 season will officially be underway. Here are three things we want to see during fall camp.
The time we’ve all been waiting for will be on Friday, August 2 for Georgia football.
Fall camp starts Friday and Dawg nation can take a sigh of relief that the 2019 season can begin.
Every position has something to look at and not in a negative way. For the defense, the secondary has to replace Deandre Baker, the linebackers will have a competition that doesn’t match any of the other positions, and the defensive line must find some quality depth.
As for the offense, Jake Fromm has to get ready for his junior season, D’Andre Swift is healthy and that running back room is itching to get on the field, and Georgia has to replace Jeremiah Holloman, Isaac Nauta, Mecole Hardman, Terry Godwin, and others with a young receiving and tight end room.

No, I didn’t forget about the offensive line, but at the same time, they’re probably the most complete position at Georgia right now.
Even though the Dawgs have to replace Lamont Gaillard, the center from the last couple of years, I believe that Pittman has it under control.
While we have plenty to watch, here are three things we want to see happen during fall camp.
Let Zeus loose
We’ve all seen Zamir White’s video this summer of him cutting and running in the sand. However, that isn’t him running in pads and taking a hit.
I believe that he will be eased into fall camp to avoid any more injuries. White has to get into game time shape and learn how to take a hit again.
I’m not sure if we will see that during fall camp right away, but I think before the Vanderbilt game, we will see just how ready he is.
White has to be one of the most anticipated guys on the roster that Dawg fans want to see what he can do. We saw his incredible high school career, but this is the SEC, and he’s had two ACL surgeries.
I think that by game three he will be ready to go and that’s when we see another thunder and lightning duo in him and Swift.
However, the goal in fall camp is to get him cleared completely, get him in shape and mentally okay to take hits. Everyone’s ready to see what he can do, and it starts this fall.
A leader emerges in the wideout room
It’s a huge blow to lose your leading receiver, and the Dawgs lost a ton at that position. However, we’ve talked about this before, Georgia has a ton of talent at the position still.
The question here will be who can step up and be the leader for the wide receivers and who steps up to fill the void of losing Jeremiah Holloman and all those other receivers.
I hope to see Demetris Robertson step up and become the hero in 2019. He is so talented, and it’s time for him to put it all together. Lawrence Cager is another guy that I want to see on the field. I’ve seen his film and studied him since I found he was coming to Georgia, but now I want to see it in person.
George Pickens will be one that everyone has their eyes on as well. He may be a true freshman, but I don’t think that matters in this situation. Pickens is exceptionally talented and another big target for Fromm to hit. He will be one to watch and see how quickly he picks up the playbook. If he can pick it up quickly, Pickens will be a big weapon for the Dawgs in 2019.
Yes, Georgia must find replacements, but what I want to see in the long run is someone steps up and be a leader. Someone who can motivate and keeps his position focused throughout the season.
I think we see a leader emerge in fall camp, and it might end up being a true freshman.
Will Nakobe Dean be ready for game one
We all know how high I am on true freshman Nakobe Dean and how I believe he will make an immediate impact.
However, he is a freshman, and I know that learning the playbook isn’t the easiest task. Dean is a talented linebacker and is hungry to get on the field. So for the next few weeks, I want to keep an eye on him to see how he’s progressing into college football.
His high school film is incredible, but now it’s time for him to step it up another notch and play at that level in college. I think he will blow peoples minds in fall camp, and I think he’s making guys in front of him uncomfortable.
If Dean plays like I think he can right away, there might be a tough decision to make on who will be the two starting inside linebackers. He’s a head hunter and already has leadership capabilities. It’s going to be fun to watch the inside and outside linebackers the next few weeks and see how the coaches figure out how to use all that talent there.
Georgia has a lot to work on this fall camp as the Dawgs get ready for Vanderbilt. However, I think this years group is a special one, and even though there were some discipline issues in the spring, the Dawgs figure it out and refocus for the season. Aug. 31 cannot get here fast enough, but the start of fall camp helps some.
